You don't need to have absolutely pitch to hear the notes right. The book explains that the Moveable do technique helps develop recognition of notes no matter what key.

Surprisingly Good5
I bought this book around christmas time on a whim. I was possesed by a vague, passing interest to learn how to sight sing and so dolled out the cash. I'm glad I did.
This is the best tool for developing one's ear I have ever come across. For a book whose main aim is to teach the student sight singing and conduction, its effects on general musicality are profound. After two months of not-so-steady practise I am able to sing any major scale melody and my melodic ability on guitar has undergone vast improvement.
I can only express my shock at the effectiveness of this course. Steve Prosser's method is neither the most logical nor well explained method out there but for reasons beyond my understaning, it works. The book is based on solfege singing, and every note is learned through its relation to do. It is divided into 10 workshops, each comprised of four parts: rythmic studies (to learn conduction), sight recognition studies (to learn solfege on different scales), sol-fa studies (direct ear training) and melodic studies (sight singing).
There are few words of advice given throughout the book and for the most part they are not needed. This course is all about work and steady improvement.
I would heartily recommend this to any musician.

Excellent Introduction to solfège and sight reading4
Designed for either group or private instruction, this book's strength is in its simplicity. Organized into simple "lessons" with corresponding excercises, or "workshops" which allow the student to apply what he/she has learned. Each workshop is successively more challenging, allowing for the student to move at his/her own pace, while incorporating elements from each of the lessons. The progression from simple excercises to more difficult ones is very intuitively paced. The only reproach is that it would be helpful to have even MORE excercises in each workshop.

Moveable Do5
The Moveable Do taught at Berklee and explained in this book is a great resourceful tool. You don't need to have absolutely pitch to hear the notes right. The book explains that the Moveable do technique helps develop recognition of notes no matter what key. It also brings great exercises to practice your ability to read in all keys. It reinforces the need to solfege in order to listen well. The rhythmic exercises cover the different time signature and common rhythmic phrases used in today's music. This great book helps you develop yourself to be a solid musician.
