Customer Reviews

Amazing solo album by Ronnie a classic.5
I bought this awhile back on the strength of the title track i wasn't dissapointed at all each track is brilliant and has a very good meaning to it. My favourite are Stand Up And Shout, Holy Diver, Don't Talk To Strangers, Invisible, Rainbow In The Dark & Shame On The Night basically the whole album. The solos are brilliant dio's vocals are awesome (obviously). The Interview is very interestibng to listen to, the booklet is great aswell. A great album deffinetly recommend you buy this. DIO ROCKS!!!!!

One of the last great hard rock albums5
I first knew Ronnie James Dio's music from his work with Rainbow, but there was never any questioning his vocal ability; he's a mini volcano. I later heard a Dio compilation that left me in no doubt that 'Holy Diver' was this band's best album. 'Stand Up And Shout' is the archetypal fast rocker, a superb track with a title that might serve as Dio's signature. The title track, complete with an eerie wind tunnel wail at the start, is slower, but just as formidable. By this time, you know you're on to a killer album. Of the other tracks, the insistent riff of 'Rainbow In The Dark' is the most instant, but breathless hard rocking is the mainstay of 'Holy Diver' and not one track disappoints. I still prefer 'Rainbow Rising,' but it's probably unfair to compare Blackmore, Powell and co to the Dio line-up, and Dio himself deserves to be remembered for more than just lending Ritchie Blackmore a hand.

An Instant Favourite5
I had heard a couple of Dio songs, and was particularly attracted to the top quality guitar playing (usually the basis for deciding which albums I buy). However, after the first track on the album, it was clearly apparent that I hadn't heard their best work, as the star of the show is quite obviously Ronnie James Dio.

Who'd have thought that little old bloke would have such a pair of lungs on him? Easily one of the greatest front men in history; an excellent metal singer, up there with my other favourites such as Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson.

The album rocks hard, in classic, clichéd style (go and watch the video for Holy Diver on YouTube), but what I particularly liked was the elements of immense atmosphere and, at times, the feeling that the songs really had some emotional background to them. Really immersive, and has earned a well respected place in the top end of my collection.
