Dutch rockers Within Temptation have surpassed themselves with The Heart of Everything. Never a band known for understatement, this is by far their biggest and best album yet, 11 epic tracks that are impressively grandiose and proudly hyperbolic. Where other bands would be content with a string section, Within Temptation incorporate an entire orchestra (plus a choir). In addition, they also sample the sounds of machine guns, explosions, car crashes and even Winston Churchill. Complemented by Sharon den Adel's impressive vocal range, it all works spectacularly, evoking imagery of men on horseback wielding axes. Each song is a mini-saga, from "The Howling" with its suggestions of Middle Earth battlefields to the anti-war "Our Solemn Hour", which features a Latin chorus, "Sanctus espiritus," taken from Roman Catholic mass. Only the radio-friendly and relatively understated ballads "All I Need" and "Forgiven" sound out of place, (though the orchestra still features on the former). Fortunately, everything else on The Heart of Everything sounds like barbarian soundtrack music. Which is to say that this is a proper heavy metal music. --Ted Kord

A Outstanding Masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're previous album was fantastic (which I highly recommend) but this is in a league of its own. Its a great combination of operatic, orchesteral, Metal, Rock, Spiritual songs that are sang with a beautiful angelic 'operatic', classical voice that flows effortlessly with the modern rock songs found in this album. I confess to having to listen to this several times for every song to grow on me, which I'm glad I did. Now I love every song on the album. The group are Dutch, but the English is perfect and every song drags you away from this life and forces you to imagin your somewhere else. The 1st too songs makes me think Im in a war zone and another song makes me think of wolves running through the untamed snow white forests of Europe. Exellent stuff.

One Word - Breathtaking
I personally love every album and single Within Temptation has ever released. None of their songs have ever disappointed me or been below my expectations of them. This album was the first I heard of Within Temptation's and every single song on this album is absolutely stunning. I wouldn't skip a track on this album, I enjoyed each and every one.

One thing I do not understand is the customers who seem to think Evanescence have a similar sound... they do not at all. Within Temptation is a far better band, although Amy Lee's vocals are powerful, Sharon's are far better.

But this album is something else, I'd definitely recommend you buy this, and look at all of the other albums by Within Temptation, because they make truly beautiful music.

Best group I had never heard of!
Had never heard of WT until recently when I saw a video which used as a backing on a BTV video-was bowled over and ordered up the CD. Brilliant-
Version I have is the limited edition which also includes DVD of Japan concert. Good job it is CD/DVD-had it been VHS/Vinyl,I would have worn it out by now, AWESEOME
