Product Description

This book is for anyone interested in a spiritual life within the context of parenting. It is a refreshingly honest account of how parents can grow spiritually among the everyday experiences of life with children. The author, Sara Burns, is both a mother and a Buddhist practitioner. After twenty years of research and evaluation for charities and voluntary organisations, first with as a communications officer with Christian Aid and more recently with Triangle Consulting (which she is a co-founder) Sara turned her enquiring mind, her research and evaluation experience to these questions: How can parents have a rich and fulfilling spiritual life amid the juggling inherent in raising children, especially combined with work? What are the opportunities and how can we make the most of them? What are the difficulties and how can they be turned around or simply got through with minimum harm? Through interviews with Buddhist parents and a great deal of analysis, reflection and looking at her own life, Sara has developed a body of knowledge which seeks to address these questions. The result is an accessible book that goes well beyond anecdote to provide a practical framework for spiritual growth within the context of family life.

Customer Reviews

A really helpful book for parents on a spiritual path5
If you want to grow as a person - spiritually, but you think it's impossible with children in tow then this is the book for you. The author shows how spiritual growth isn't just about meditating in silence but is about how we live our life everyday - including wtih children. Her illustrations from her personal experience bring the message alive. I found it a moving, accessible and very practically helpful book.

INSPIRING AND PRACTICAL5
I have been a Buddhist for ten years, and for the last two years a parent too. Becoming a parent bought new challenges to my practice and lots of doubts about how effectivly i could practice, this book has given me back my confidence. Great to read about how other parents cope and bring the dharma into parenting, using it as an inspiration rather than a hinderance.Highly recommended and easy to read.
