Early Manchester5
This is a beautifully written book by a very interesting and untypical woman of those times. A full description of the story would spoil it but for all Mancunians this is a fascinating tale, none more so than the vivid description of The Battle of Peterloo. The characters are believable and by turns one can like, love and hate them. The story starts with a baby discovered floating down the River Irk and continues to follow his story as he grows to manhood. I grew up near this area in the 1940's and can verify some of the author's descriptions. If you like history and people you will love this book. She also writes some wonderful quotable lines.

Making the Mancunian5
Being a local girl from Manchester this book served a interesting exercise in local history while still being enthralling. Jabez Clegg and the other fascinating characters wade thrpough streets steeped with the true meaning of being a Mancunian. A book My Children will read in years to come and be mezmerised.

Captures the essence of the spirit of Mancunians5
Anyone who has ever lost their sense of belonging to a "human" race should be moved by this "Moses" story and the dignity of the Bible named central character Jabez Clegg. For anyone ever having visited Manchester and all Mancunians tis book will send a spark of recognition, pride and sense of justice and deep sensivity which is characteristic of the working class man;which has been portrayed more recently in movies like Brassed Off.
