A good general reference
This book is one I keep coming back to again and again as a reference to check tunes or discover new ones. It contains plenty of well-known and more obscure tunes, but its main strength is that although it focuses on American music it isn't restricted to one nation or tradition - it covers old-time, bluegrass, Irish, Scottish and English. There are some surprising omissions and Morris tunes are particularly under-represented but for a single volume it serves pretty well. It would have been better if the music was printed in standard notation as well as tablature, especially since tab doesn't encourage you to work out your own way of playing a tune, but you can always buy the fiddle-player's fakebook instead, or O'Neill's definitive collection if you just want the Irish stuff.

Critique
This book is entirely in TAB! It doesn't say that this is so on either the front or the back of the book, you have to look inside it to find out!

If I'd known this I would not have bought it.
Unfortunately I didn't read the previous review, I will in future.

However, as someone new to learning an instrument the "Introductory Materials" section Has been very useful in my understanding of tune types, tempo and rhythms.
