My favourite manga tutor5
I've got several 'how to...' books about manga, and this is the one which has taught me the most.

I like the way the book is structured and paced. Anyone familiar with the '... for Dummies' series will be instantly at home as it uses the well tried formula of teaching in the vernacular with humour.

Sure, there aren't as many pictures to copy as in some manga tutor books, but the author explains the all principles and techniques you need to master in order to become a manga-ka (manga artist) in easy to digest chunks.

In addition to the technical instruction, there are practical tips and interesting historical/cultural sections which add depth and perspective to the subject.

Oh, and the author is one fine artist too!

In my opinion, this book is well worth the price.

Good for beginners4
As stated by the title, it's meant for beginners...someone like me. It covers a lot of things, from basic human anatomy, facial expressions, simple perspectives, folds, clothings, etc etc. Definitely a good place to begin.

The sample art pieces are not that good...as compared to others, but sufficient for you to understand.

One thing missing though is the posture....some sample posture on how to draw a human. There's also limited example on sideview (for human). If there are more info on the anatomy...i think it'll be much better.

Overall, it is a good buy...but this is not the book where you should look at if you cannot draw (no drawing n shading lessons) and can only draw a human which stand straight (no interesting posture).

Hope it helps.

pretty good but3
im not very good at drawing, and i thought this book could make me better and learn to draw manga. It says on the cover of the book "fun and easy way to create your own manga characters", that is true if you take away all of the boring and not very fun stuff. instead of showing you how to draw the characters it pretty much tells you how to in text and shows you a example of how its gonna look. After reading 50 pages and drawing for one or two it suddenly became very hard, i may not be giving this book a chance but its not supposed to be boring and hard to learn how to draw.
