Customer Reviews
Woooowwww Dude
Wow! If I hadn't bought all the books seperately already I'd have that.
My reviews:
1st book - Fantastic. Brilliant beggining. Bit short.
2nd book - Fantastic again. Too short though.
3rd book - Very good. Better than the first 2. Still could be a little longer.
4th book - Woww! THE best. Triwizard tournament a sucess.
5th book - Brilliant. Gets alittle boring in the middle. Bit too long. But a fantastic end.
6th book - Fabulous. Best book for suspense but ending a bit sad.
7th book is going to fit together and is going to be 10/10.
Don't let us down J.K. Rowling!
Ummmm?
Fantasy/Fiction books are being published so often now......
For one/a series of books to be successful is hard and (often) relies on luck and on marketing.
I must say, the Harry Potter series is one of the series that burst into the bestseller lists with a mixture of both luck and compelling storytelling. The way J.K. Rowling writes is quite compelling: it draws you into the story and shows you around Hogwarts, makes you basically visuallize the teachers, and Harry's enemies. The entire series is fast-paced, and Harry's adventures and the Spells are believable (There are no gravity defying spells, escapes from a creature by jumping off hogwarts, everything is believable enough). I am, by no means, saying that the Series is perfect. I have found that the writing style has become more and more complicated from Harry Potter and the Philosophers (Sorcerers, in the U.K.) Stone, to the latest book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. The first book was obviously aimed for children and young teens, while the later books (mainly number 4 and 5) are obviously aimed for everyone. However, if younger children are to read Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, the length might seem daunting and far too long.
By the way, a paperback series has been released recently, making the heavier, more expensive, and harder to carry Hardback edition less favoured among children and sometimes Adults alike. I do not care much about the hardback and paperback choice: as long as the content is the same, and as good.
I think that the 3rd and 4th book are the most interesting. In my opinion the 2nd book is the more boring, and least interesting, followed by the 5th book (which, in my opinion, was interesting in places, but drab in other places) followed by the 1st book(good at times, bad at times, and the 3rd and 4th book, topping off the group.
The series has come a long way: from the original, 200-something paged book, to the latest edition: huge 700-something book. This set is worth it, but is obviously not a 'modern-classic', making the comparison between legendary books like The LOTR collection, 1984, Animal Farm, and later, books like the Giver, and like the Old Kingdom trilogy, and of course, books like the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy.
Recommended for people who like to read quick-paced magical adventures, but it mostly entertains people who don't compare this with modern classics!
sigh
Some of these reviews do seem to have got it hopelessly wrong. Who cares what the "rank" of each book is! You're still going to read the sixth one aren't you??? And stop comparing this to Tolkein. Masterous as he may be - it is all in the past. There's room enough for more than one amazing fantasy author!!!
