a different way to learn Chinese
This way to learn Chinese is unconvensional and couldn't go very far. But it is good for the beginners to get the hand on instead of being scared away from day one. You can learn the basic Chinese from here in a westernised way, especially if you try to learn it by yourself. It will make your learning experience easier and more interesting, maybe you will be encouraged and want to go further after this book.

Looks good, but no Chinese characters
Didn't really look at this book in detail, but did notice straightaway that whilst it has Pinyin it doesn't have any Chinese characters so whilst you can learn how to speak Chinese you won't necessarily learn how to read and write Chinese. After spending nearly four months in China I think that to be understood it's very useful to be able to read and write Chinese characters because Putonghua (Mandarin) is not spoken throughout the country, but people will be able to understand Chinese characters wherever you are.

Learn Chinese the fast & fun way
I am a Chinese tutor, I chose "learn Chinese the fast & fun way" for my students. They realy like it, they think it is a very practical book for learning Chinese. Especially the colourful & funny pictures really make it interesting for them to read & learn. I always designes some games for my students to revise what they have learn before, this book also have some practice which you can check what you have learned. It is a good book for both teaching and learning Mandarin Chinese.
