A book to keep5
My two children aged 6 and 7 both thoroughly enjoyed this story, over and over again. Luckily it is the kind of story an adult can read many times and still feel fond of. Masha is a very brave person. I like it because of the wonderful illustrations. Also the words describe the place so well. It has inspired me to buy more books from this author.

1 of the Winners of the English Association Best Books Award5
May 2000: Masha and the Firebird was awarded the prize for Key Stage 2 Fiction in the English Association's English 4-11 Awards for the Best Children's Illustrated Books of 1999.

Masha and the Firebird5
This is a beautiful book, suitable for all age groups.
Masha is entrusted with the task of guarding the firebird's four eggs, one for each of the elements, from the evil (and quite enormous) witch,Baba Yaga. She is helped along by animals of the air, the earth and the water. The story culminates in a colourful riot of triumph, tragedy and hope as the firebird engulfs Baba Yaga.
The illustrations are vibrant, the text rich, and the retelling of the tale itself is captivating. My 4 year old son enjoyed this as much as my 11 year old. There is an appendix to the book which gives suggestions for painting your own eggs. Would make a very good gift at Easter.
