Better stick with the 1971 edition ....
Some nice colour pictures, but then you can get those in the local tourist board freebie brochures. Having read both this book and Patrick Bailey's original (1971, reprinted 1974) harback 'Orkney' (in the David and Charles Island Series)can't help feeling that you'd be better off sticking with the latter if it's background you want. OK, some of the info is now outdated but the geography and geology, history and (to some exent) archaeology don't change. And they are all dealt with in much greater depth than in this new, slim volume. Really wish I hadn't bothered.

More magazine than guide
An interesting read with good pictures. I would have been even happier with a little more guidance on what to see where and when and how to get there. Orkney was better than the book!
