Customer Reviews
Chester and Lester the best there is
Electric guitar playing does not come any better than this. The seemingly effortless musical mastery of these two legendary players is everything I expected and more when I bought the orginial vinyl versions of these recordings. The only mystery to me is why did they not record together more often? Separately they made marvellous recordings, but together they inspired each other to new heights, as is evident in these tracks. The personal and musical chemistry between Chet and Les is so good that you can hear it not only in their music, but in the little snatches of their conversational camaradie that the recording engineers left on the tapes. The mutual respect between these two musicians has created some of the most beautiful electric guitar recordings ever made, in my opinion. This CD should be in every aspiring guitarist's collection, and also on the shelves of anybody who just loves great music.
guitar stars
With the recent death of Les Paul, I decided I really must buy something by this guitar wizard. Trouble is..... I never really liked his multi tracked, multi layered sound There was never any doubting his massive ability as a guitarist, but,not for me! Then I remembered this album he made with Chet Atkins in the mid 70s, when vinyl was king. A friend of mine raved about it, I borrowed it, taped it, the tape snapped, and I now have the CD.
Ooh it's lovely! Two middle aged men , having fun, sparking off each other, and producing some great music!
It's very MOR, but hey I'm 62,and it rings my bell!
Studio chat left on the recording adds atmosphere to the session. Fave track has to be Moonglow/Picnic theme, and Duke Ellington's Caravan.
Play it while you're computing or ironing or pottering about the house! A warm, cosy disc, that you'll just love!
Chester and Lester
These guys can certainly play the guitar, and it's a pleasure to listen to them. The quality of the playing makes you realise you are listening to the best of the best. However, the recording is marred by the two talking and calling to each other, as if the audience didn't really matter too much. Pity.
