Synopsis
A small-town boy hustling his way through the big city forms an uneasy alliance with a scam artist who inducts him into the violent world of bare-knuckle brawling in A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS writer/director Dito Montiel's unforgiving urban action film. Arriving in New York City with little more than the shirt on his back, Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) makes ends meet by selling counterfeit goods on the street. But times are tough and money is short, and just as things are starting to look grim, Shawn crosses paths with crafty con artist Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard). Harvey instantly recognizes Shawn's natural talent for street fighting, and offers to help the uneasy newcomer make some quick cash on the bare-knuckle circuit. But making a living by brawling isn't easy because the system is hopelessly corrupt, and the only people who really come out on top are the rich businessmen who place wagers on the disposable fighters. Still, Harvey's instincts were right, and Shawn quickly makes a name for himself by taking down every opponent who crosses his path, including mixed martial arts champs, veteran pugilists, and ultimate fighters. As each bout becomes more intense, Shawn realizes that his only hope for escaping this dark world is to face his fiercest opponent to date.

What???1
Ok...

With the title of the film called "FIGHTING".... I expected there to be some actual fighting! Throughout i thik there were only three fights and all he used to win them fights were background materials such as sinks! no even his fists so on so on. The rest of the film was dragged on by a bad romantic plot with even worse acting. If you want to see some class fighting in a decent plot... watch "Never Back Down"... great martial arts/kick boxing film. Recent and modern for present viewers. Never Back Down [DVD] [2008]

AGRESSION AND ATTITUDE IN BIG APPLE3
aggression and attitude in big apple-----
it is really a treat to watch a movie driven by sheer testosterone once in a while but only if it has the ability to match the cast with an equally worthy testament called a script .

this movie is interspersed with shots of manhattan,a young inter-racial dance club mix and some funky bare knuckle inter-racial gritty fighting sequences to justify the title .

it is also carbon copy of a charles bronson movie called hard times from the seventies and it is worth seeing if you like CHRISTOPHER TATUM ,star of step up and she's a man .

TATUM is showcased here to show he is not just a model and a dancer but also good at free style action as he beats both black and asian opponents with a calm glee dressed in either a WHITE vest like jimmy Dean and Brando or bare torso like stallone or brad pitt .
he plays a dysfunctional white boy with paternal issues who has bloomed into the most vicious street fighter on east coast and is trying to fight for big money in the manhattan underworld fight club .
the story is as corny and it is only the boys and their banter which saves it from getting unbearably boring .
tatum ,terrence howard and brian white are interesting to watch but the real star is the fighting itself and manhattan shot in interesting angles and locales .
the script and direction needed more effort as tatum sleeps over in central park on a bench and wakes up clean shaven looking as fresh as he is acting in a shaving advertisement,
this is neither fight club nor step up but rather a minor tatum action blockbuster .

only time will prove if tatum is good enough to join the ranks of screen idols like the past golden boys from hollywood .

this is a tolerable tale which lapses into monotony at times though sporadically it comes to life during the fighting sequences which are really gritty and worth watching repeatedly .

decent and realistic4
very surprised! i thought it was going to be dull with unrealistic overly choreographed fights with a predictable plot. these fellas don't hold back and unlike most films, the fighting is realistic, gritty and scrappy - not perfect punches and kicks we all enjoyed to watch as kids.
very refreshing to see a new slant and extremely entertaining. anyone who has ever had a fight in their life can relate to the emotions and adrenaline portrayed in each actors performance. Tatum is magnificent and he has certainly gained my respect. lets hope he continues to make good films from here on out!
