Customer Reviews

Beware - not ITF Tae Kwon Do1
First of all I must say that you should ignore the first two reviews on this book as they are by the people who wrote it, Mr T Read and Mr P Harding, both who are credited on the inside cover of the book. Nice of you to write a review on your own book!

Unbiased Review

As an avid practitioner of Taekwondo, I possess a vast library of TKD books, from General Choi's condensed encyclopaedia, to the latest book Taekwon-do Patterns by Jim Hogan; and I also possess other books of interest like A Killing Art by Alex Gillis, which is a very in-depth read on the hidden truth about the begins of the martial art. I thought that this new book Taekwon-do: Grading Syllabus would be a worthy companion.....was it?

Sadly no, and to be quite honest it's no different to any other book available showing you patterns. If you want to know the movements in your pattern you can just download them for free off the majority off TKD websites, the most accurate being the official ITF website. If you want to see the moves, watch them on youtube. The rest of the book relates to TAGB syllabus (ITF students beware!), so if your not TAGB its not much use to you.

I would consider Taekwon-do patterns by Jim Hogan for a couple of pounds more first, as it goes into much more detail about the movements of the patterns; giving clearer explanations of what the movements are for within a pattern and how they should be performed.

In conclusion, move on and buy something else

Ok for gradings - but a remake of earlier book2
Hi, I've been a student of the tagb for some time now looking to take my Black Belt in October 2009.
The book as a reference tool is fine for gradings, but i brought the original book that Terry Read wrote and this one although laid out better, is the same book, so nothing new for when i face the BB Panel.

On a different note about the book itself, but to comments left by others.....

My Instructor Mr Wood has been drilling the tenets of TKD for sometime, so i can't understand why his Instructor Mr Terry Read is trying to distance himself from his own book in his comments written on the review created by UserID - wheres the integrity in that?
Its common knowledge that Terry and Paul wrote the book, and was 'signed off' by the 'Senior Instuctors of the TAGB' So why Towndrow is commenting on userid's review i cant understand - maybe they just can't take criticism. Makes me wonder whether i'm in the right association, maybe i should just stick to the print outs my instructor gives me for free!

a little disappointed with Mr Read1
i also train with the TAGB and also feel a little disappointed with Mr read. It is common knowledge that he and a couple of his students wrote this book, It was written to replace the first edition he also put together some years ago, so to see his name on here as a student giving his opinion of the book is wrong, and should be ashamed of himself.
As for Mr Harding also giving the impression he is an unbiased student is also disappointing, but I guess he was doing as his told!!
The book was borrowed to me by a Instructor some weeks ago and is ok as a coloured belt reference but not worth buying to replace the first edition if you already have it. I still have my handbook I brought from my Instructor Master Dew, it does the job and I see no need for another
