Product Description

Using its patented Hyper-Z technology and its three texture units per rendering pipeline, the ATI Radeon 32Mb AGP DDR Graphics Card delivers the ultimate 32-bit gaming experience and blazing fast frame rates at ultra-high resolutions in games such as Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament.

Radeon boards feature the fastest hardware geometry T&L engine and a quantum step forward in 3-D architecture with the most Direct X 8 and OpenGL features. The Radeon Charisma Engine and Pixel Tapestry architecture enable the most realistic characters and environments ever created.

Radeon boards excel in digital video with more new features, including on-chip Motion Compensation and IDCT MPEG acceleration together with adaptive de-interlacing. The ability to decode all the HDTV formats without loading the CPU, and directly driving both analogue and DVI digital high-definition displays without the need for external hardware, make Radeon based cards ideal for PC-based HDTV and DVD.

This card comes with 32Mb of double data-rate memory making it ideal for high performance gaming.

Excellent Card - Worth the high price5
The Radeon card is ATI's serious competition to the GeForce line, and it performs exceptionally well straight out of the box. It's easy to install, the drivers are solid, and it already supports many new features that are miles ahead of the competition. Extensive support for the recently released Direct X 8 will also make sure that this card will have a longer lifetime than is usual for a 3D card - something that makes a big difference when I am considering what to buy. For serious gamers, the 64MB version is also worth a look

Best budget card there is!4
The Radeon 32MB DDR is very fast for its asking price. In terms of benchmarking, it is not quite as good as the Geforce 2 MX in 16bit, but can outstrip full-priced Geforce cards in 32bit. The drivers are good, although official releases are few and far between. Installation/uninstallation of drivers is also a little convuluted, thanks to the system-meddling installler program. Overall, however, this is an excellent little card.

Very, very, old1
Notice the dates on the other reviews.

When I was buying a GeForce2 GTS in 2000AD, this was a competitive and expensive card. These days it's comparitively rubbish, as is the GeForce2.

Even if you need an AGP card, and you're probably better off properly disposing of an AGP system and buying something vaguely modern, there are many much better AGP cards than this one now. When it says "accelerates today's games" be aware that the "today" in question is sometime in the year 2000.
