From the Publisher
Writing clearly in English—the standard language of the Internet, not to mention business—has never been more important. Just think of all the times you put fingers to keyboard. Letters, reports, proposals, publicity and marketing materials, emails ... the list is long. If you can write well, you are more likely than the next person to get what you want. But too often, copywriters achieve their goals not because of what they write but despite it. With this in mind, Andy Maslen set out to write a simple guide to good copywriting.
Follow Andy’s advice and you’ll be able to write better copy, faster. You’ll be entertained along the way – copywriting should be fun, too. You’ll acquire some of the trade secrets that professional copywriters normally like to keep to themselves. You’ll see that it’s not as hard as you might think to write well (though it does take practice). And you’ll get a writer’s toolkit stuffed with practical hints, tips and techniques for better copywriting.
About the Author

Customer Reviews
easy to read - highly recommended
I'd never written copy before, but having read through this great book once I've gone on to write quite a bit for a new business I've just launched. This required some B2B and B2C copy and 'write to sell' was a great help with both.
Its logically structured and easy to read: contains helpful examples and Maslen does a good job of explaining the reasoning behind his suggested approaches.
It was also an enjoyable and interesting read as a consumer of copy as normal member of the public and I'd recommend it even to people that don't have plans to write copy.
The table of contents is detailed but (minor complaint here) I'd have liked an index to help with quick reference when I go back to it.
Highly recommended and great value.
Best Book on Copywriting I've Read
The beauty of this book is that it covers generic copywriting. The other titles tend to focus on direct marketing. That focus, along with the American style of the other authors, means you couldn't use them to shape your copywriting process. You'd simply be 'over the top' with zero credibility. I tend to use those books (by Bob Bly and Joe Vitale) as sources for the odd new idea, not as my template.
This book is split into 2 sections. Part one teaches you how to focus on your audience to make sure you write copy that pushes their buttons. Part two shows you how to write in a short, punch - and grammatically correct - manner.
It is perfect for the copy I need to write - job adverts for legal positions. It enables my ads to attract attention without using silly gimmicks that just wouldn't work.
I hope there are other books from Maslen to follow.
A must-have!
I have to write a lot of copy at work for everything from web pages to press advertising. My employer hasn't given me much training - they just told me to "buy a couple of books". Well I'm glad I bought this one. Andy Maslen takes a very straightforward, no-nonsense approach with loads of practical examples of what to do (and what not to do!). There are lots of books out there but most of them are too American or direct mail focused. You have to wade through loads of padding to get to the good stuff. Write to Sell is 100% usable advice from someone who earns his living as a top copywriter. Whatever level of copywriter you are, I'd recommend this as a must-have.
