"Continues the tradition of the earlier [editions] with its well-written, comprehensive, and very up-to-date coverage...A welcome and much needed reassertion of the central importance of pathology."

Very Nice Concise Pathology Text5
This covers pretty much everything in the Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease tome, but in less detail. The chapters are very well organised. It doesn't go into great detail on mechanisms but does cover everything you're likely to come across in med school. I tend to use both the Robbins Path books: 'Basic Pathology' for reading to get a good view on a subject, and 'Basis for Disease' when I'm looking for more detail in a particular area.

Incidentally, the new edition of Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease is coming out in August 2004, so it may pay to hold off until then if you opt for the meatier text.

easy to understand5
the new 6th edition of Kumar`s(et al)Pathology text book is much improved. It is more concise, easy to understand, and the excellent diagrams make life, for the beleaguered medical student,a lot easier. Having read Underwood as well, I would much rather recommend this book as an indepth yet more approachable option

Great pathology text4
At first glance, this integrated clinical and anatomical pathology textbook appears to be overwhelmingly text-based, interrupted only by the inclusion of sophisticated illustrations and green "interest-info" boxes. Designed as a supplement to lectures, to provide the student with a greater insight into the mechanics of the study of pathology, Basic Pathology successfully considers each subject in excellent essay-level detail. The laboratory diagnosis of certain disorders has also been incorporated, although the book does not focus on clinical pathology as such.

Once you start reading, you realise that the language is actually relatively simple, and the topics are considered in a logical order. The text could perhaps be made a little more appealing by simply introducing bigger breaks between paragraphs, while a brief chapter summary would also be useful. In summary, Basic Pathology is a must-have accompaniment to any Pathology course, if for the beautiful illustrations alone!
