Product Description

Dangers to human health due to the mining and widespread use of asbestos have been recognized since the early part of the 20th century. Despite the warnings of occupational and environmental hazards, asbestos continued to be used, causing an explosion in the cases of malignant mesothelioma. Australia may have the highest incidence of mesothelioma in the world, due to the blue asbestos industry at Wittenoom in Western Australia. This work discusses the scientific and medical aspects of mesothelioma (pathobiology, diagnosis, investigation, and treatment) together with the epidemiology, medicolegal problems and ethical dilemmas. The subject is approached from a global perspective, though the editors have been influenced by their dealings with mesothelioma in Australia, and by cases submitted to the Australian Mesothelioma Surveillance Program. Though intended primarily for pathologists and clinicians, this book can also be an aid to lawyers, epidemiologists and all others with interest in mesothelioma.
