Product Description
Mesothelioma, not widely known among the general public, is an asbestos-related lung disease with no known cure. Its consequences are dramatic for the sufferer and with a growing number of claims by those whose work has brought them into direct contact with asbestos dust, the implications for the insurance industry worldwide could be catastrophic.
Brenda McKessock should know more about mesothelioma than most. Recently, Ellen McKessock, her mother, an otherwise healthy former factory worker, died of the disease after a painful illness.
The book is first and foremost an account of Ellen's suffering and death. From such poignant first hand experience, the author first became confused and angry at the level of ignorance even among the medical profession. She researched the condition and found out much more of what she needed to know.

Mesothelioma: The Story of an Illness
An excellent narrative book. I only gave it 4 stars, through no fault of the author, because there should be far more said by the medical profession and the industry on the subject matter. The rating is nonetheless high because the book is unique. It appeared to be out of print some years back while I was working for an asbestos surveying company (Scientifics Ltd), but I am extremely glad to see it back. It can only serve a good purpose. It also shows how greedy and selfish the asbestos mining companies have been. The conditions for causing the disease still exist in places like South African mining towns.
