Troy Original Soundtrack
Troy as a film is very atmospheric, and this is due in part to its soundtrack -- sweeping, quite inspiring music that really seems to fit the mythological Greece in which the film is set.
As a soundtrack by itself, though, I can't say that I was impressed by Troy. It has several good moments; a few of the tracks are excellent (Achilles leading the Myrmidons, the opening track, Achilles and Briseis), but many tracks feature very quiet, slow periods, and when listened to as individual tracks, there really isn't a lot that is worth listening to more than once. Troy's soundtrack is an album that seems to work best when listened to as a whole, from start to finish. There is also quite a lot of repetition -- there are similar sounds and pieces used in most of the tracks, and it can all become a little tedious after it is heard a few times.
The stand-out tracks are excellent, though, and those who enjoyed Troy's music while watching the film won't be disappointed. I would recommend it only for those who payed particular attention to the film's music.
I feel I've got to even the scale
Nearly all the reviews I've read of this album absolutely rubbish it, and I can't understand why! I've even read reviews that complained about the warbling singing, which left me with an impression that he'd never actually seen the film!
I really like this album, more so than I actually enjoyed the film which was just, okay!
The music is exceptionally emotive and to me brings to mind images of battles, lost loves and an awful lot of sand!
To be quite honest the simplest review of this CD is this: Watch the film... do you like the music that is in the film? If yes, buy the CD, if no, then I probably wouldn't recommend it! I personally really like it!
Brilliantly composed music
This music is unique, like all of James Horner's works and like normal, is lovely to listen to. It fits the film perfectly, building up with tense music in parts and using throughout the music themes that are ones you remember with the likes of Howard Shore's music. Plus, an excellent ending song by Josh Groban to end it all. The songs are long and anything but boring, I strongly recommend this brilliant music for a brilliant film.
