An unique work of military biographies.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only biographical work of its kind on this particular subject. The career of every British officer of the Army, Navy, and Marines who served on loan to the Egyptian Army between 1882 and 1925, in all nearly 1,100 men, are herein summarised. The amount of biographical material available varies, but every effort has been made to include as much information as possible, including relevant dates, decorations, regiments, and details of any active military service. Any other interesting points are also noted. The introduction explains the origins of the British Officered Egyptian Army, and the appendices information relating to its organisation and operations. It is not the sort of book to appeal to the general reader due to its specialist nature, but it is nevertheless fascinating to dip into whenever you want to check up on a name which may have appeared elsewhere in your reading. This volume is the obvious result of many years of research, and will be of particular value to the military historian and anyone with an interest in Egypt and the Sudan. It will also be of use to anyone interested in researching family history.
It is difficult to give a star rating to a book of this type, however I have given it the maximum due to the wealth of information it contains and the fact that it does exactly what it was written to do.
