Check camera 1Gb compatibility with Olympus before buying
I was going to buy a 1Gb xD card for my C750UZ Olympus camera but decided to check with Olympus.co.uk due to the 'slow response' and similar problems reported by other reviews. On the Olympus site look at the accessories FAQ of any Olympus digital camera or the on-line [compatibility] help, and download the pdf 'What Compatibility xD-Picture Card/Smart Media/Compact Flash [21st Sep. 2007]'. It states 512Mb max for my camera. The only firmware upgrade for my old model is for PixBridge not larger xD cards. To be safe I ordered the 512Mb xD Olympus branded card instead which Olympus state as the largest capacity for my model (and it works fine). This is particularly important if your camera was bought before 2007. Likewise newer cameras may well accept a 2Gb type H xD card as well, which might be even more tempting. Beware of storing all your snaps on one xD card though say during that holiday of a life-time, as if you lose your camera on holiday, all your photos could go with it.
Note that type M is normal speed and type M+ and H are the newer higher speed xD transfer cards (1.5x and 2 to 3x faster respectively). So this type M is the slower xD version - not important for transfer at USB1 speeds but it might affect write image speed during photographing and transfer at USB2. However, all xD cards are pretty lethargic, so if your camera offers two card slots, investigate the other format as well. This card, being Olympus, will work with the Olympus autostitch panarama camera function (unlike the Fuji version). So overall 3* - although now that xD prices have dropped from over eighty pounds to nearer a tenner it's not such an expensive mistake finding out it's incompatible with your camera.
warning!
Be careful what memory card reader you use with this product. Olympus 'M type' cards can only be used with Olympus card readers. I took my card to a shop to get the photos put onto cd while on holiday and if used with the wrong reader will whipe half your photos, and are really hard to recover, even by proffesionals. Other than that its a great card, will fit loads of photos on.
PROBLEMS with H 1GB Xd card
Ordered the H 1GB card for my olympus D-565 camera - received it in only 24 hours opened and inserted the card only to be told that it would need formatted. Formatting card produced error message. Retried formatting a number of times, phoned Olympus help desk - 'oh, your camera will only take memory upto 512MB' - nothing in my manual or on the internet had indicated that the card wouldn't work with my camera, indeed the comment on the Amazon.co.uk website in functions states "Compatible to all Olympus and Fuji xD-compatible digital cameras". Anyway I realise that this is not a proper review of the working product but hope it may prove useful to some of you - my advise phone Olympus and check it works in your camera before purchasing.
