Disappointed
I was hoping for something that would allow me to share my USB hard disk over the lan to multiple machines. Unfortunately you need to install and use proprietary windows software to access the disk. You need to mount it every time and the worst bit is that only ONE computer can access it at the same time. I was hoping that I could share music and videos to my Xbox Media centre, unfortunately it isn't possible.
Useful way to connect to your PC
I was thinking about buying an external hard drive that would link wirelessly to my PC, but as I already have two USB external drives, thought this would be a cheaper alternative.
It was very easy to set up, and I can now access my hard drives via this unit (and two more if I want). I can take my laptop anywhere in the house and leave my hard drives in my study.
It will also connect to a printer if needed, and does give you the facility to connect to your drives via the internet even when your PC is turned off.
You do have to connect to your attached drives each time you turn your computer on, but that is easily done via the icon in the toolbar.
A very good buy!
Little disappointed
I wish I had read Ash McConnell's review before buying. I was hoping for a device that will let me access USB drives across my network so I can easily copy data between machines, and automate a backup to them. Unfortunately, because you need to "connect" using the proprietary software, you can't just map this as a network drive and start copying, and you can't access from several machines at a time.
The device works by mimicking you physically plugging the device in (which you might as well do), but they totally missed the boat from this as well, rather than just transmitting the data going between your PC and the device across the network (effectively allowing *any* USB device), you have to install either the Printer and/or Mass Storage drivers (which are seperate from each other)
