Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Although there have been countless compilations over the decades, The Very Best of the Jacksons could well be the most definitive. Split across two discs, disc one primarily features the early Mowtown days and the second, mainly their hits as the Jacksons (as opposed to Jackson 5) released on Epic. Often overshadowed by Michael's subsequent success as a solo artist, this anthology demonstrates why the Jacksons' perfect balance of pop and soul has endured when compared to one-time peers such as the Osmonds. The irresistible funk of "ABC" and "I Want You Back" are classics of the period as are the incredible ballads "Got to Be There" and little Michael's ode to a loveable rodent, "Ben". Highlights of disc two are predominantly from their massive albums Destiny and Triumph, released in the late 1970s, early 1980s; "Can You Feel it", "Blame it on the Boogie" and "Shake Your Body" to name but three.

It was around this time that Michael began his adult solo career and The Very Best of the Jacksons appropriately ends with a live version of "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" from MJ's Off the Wall. Michael may have gone on to eclipse his family but there can be little dispute that the Jacksons are one of the most important musical dynasties ever. --Georgina Collins

A compilation that misses the point!2
A golden opportunity to get all the hits across 2 discs documenting the force that was the Jackson's coupled with the rise of the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. Unfortunatly one too many deals were done in the record industry to bring this compilation to fruition. The net result is an excellent overview of the motown days and an absolute travesty of the CBS/disco era Jacksons. Full length versions of the songs are sacrificed for "additional" tracks which demission the overall compliation significantly. Buy the US version from the "essential" series to get the CBS/disco full length tracks and avoid this poor UK release.

Excellent Compilation4
When The Jackson 5 started out, they literally fired out the hits in rapid succession.
All of these favourites from the Motown years are here on Disc 1. I’ll Be There is a particularly outstanding track. Also here is early solo material from Michael, including the sublime Got To Be There
On Disc 2 they have transformed into the Jacksons and this covers their recordings for the Epic label. By this stage their music had become very ‘Disco-fied’. Less of the tracks on Disc 2 were actual hits but this is still a comprehensive collection of their out put from this era. Best of the later tracks are Can you Feel It- a fantastic upbeat celebrational disco hymn, and also State Of Shock which sees Michael in a duet with Mick Jagger in raw, funky style.
This is the most complete collection from The Jackson 5/Jacksons and well worth having.
Recommended.

A part of History5
The Jacksons are my greatest ever band - even though many are more famous. But if you listen to some of the tracks, you will undersand why I am such abig fan of them.

Forget about Michael, this is a team effort, with brothers of a huge family making records that feel fresh even now. My favourites are Show you the way to go, State of Shock, Blame it on the boogie and Can you feel it - all of which are on the second disc. But this is simply because their sound is far more modern. I want you back will always be remembered, aswell as ABC, and so many more on the first disc - for years to come.

There is also a live version of Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough, and two songs almost Michael-less that add to such a memorable selection from the Jacksons. This is a need for any music fan.

Superb!!! (from a teenage fan)
