Set in the 1930s, the award-winning period drama stars David Suchet as a quirky Belgian detective named Hercule Poirot. The series is written by Clive Exton, but based on Agatha Christie's classic crime stories. Meticulous in his work as a private detective, Poirot exercises his "little grey cells" to help the police solve crimes and murder mysteries, whether they request his services or not. Captain Hastings, Poirot's side-kick, is played by Hugh Fraser and Phillip Jackson takes the role of Inspector Japp.

These episodes show Suchet et al at their best. The script, acting and photography are nothing short of superb. The ABC murders and Death in the clouds being prime examples of drama done well.

David Suchet is the definitive Poirot .
This collection contains 7 episodes of the beautifully filmed Granada TV production of Agatha Christie's Poirot. It should be noted that this edition is NOT the complete third series as originally broadcast. On the four discs, The Mystery of the Spanish Chest, The Theft of the Royal Ruby, The Affair at the Victory Ball, The Mystery of the Hunter's Lodge, ABC Murders, Death in the Clouds, and One, Two, Buckle My Shoe. David Suchet brings the eccentric and intelligent Poirot to life in his inimitable way and is ably supported by Pauline Moran as Miss Lemon, Hugh Fraser as Captain Hastings and Philip Jackson as Inspector Japp.

Little grey discs
I have always had Suchet low down on my list of Poirot's - I much preferred Ustinov, but these have grown on me (at least the ones that actually function in my DVD player). A refreshing change from some of the tripe served up currently on TV.
