Synopsis

Set in a northern social club, Peter Kay co-writes and stars as a range of characters in this unique comedy classic. Peter plays Brian Potter, the wheelchair-bound owner of the fire-blighted Phoenix Club in Bolton, who's determined to see it rise from the ashes. Aiding Brian at the Phoenix are his motley staff: the resident MC Jerry St Clair (Dave Spikey); the dangerously keen electrician/DJ Ray; the useless doormen Max and Paddy; the bar and cleaning staff Holy, Mary and Marion; the gormless handyman Kenny; and the musical twosome Alan and Les (Les Alanos).

Phoenix Nights Series 1 sees legendary social club owner Brian Potter and his hapless band of staff and regulars determined to make the Phoenix Club a success, no matter what. Not even a racist folk band, an unforeseeable psychic or a drunken horse will get in the way of their dream that "club land will never die".

In Phoenix Nights Series 2, life is not going Brian Potter's way. He has lost everything: his license, his friends and his beloved Phoenix Club in a mysterious fire. But as Brian says, "there's only one way to go when you're on the bones of your arse and that's up". As he rallies the old gang back together, it's time to raise the Phoenix from the flames once again.

Well, what can I say, this is easily the funniest programme I have ever seen.
God Bless Peter Kay.
I really cannot decide which is the funnier out of the two series, they are both excellent.
Everything about this show is hilarious from Brain Potter getting stuck on his "Stannah" stairlift to the Max and Paddy pretending to be hitmen, you just could not make it up but Kay has and managed to do it without it seeming far fetched.
A mention should also go to the supporting cast, charactors such as Big Kenny the liar and young kenny,Les Alanos and of course Holy Mary. The likes of these make the show for me but the best is Keith Lard the fire inspector who first appeared in 'That Peter Kay Thing' in the episode'Eyes Down' about the bingo hall.

Good cameo apperances from Roy Walker,Jim Bowan,Tim Healey & Kate Robbins[I laugh out loud to myself every time i think of Holy Mary behind the bar at the Ann Summers style party with her love balls-sweet jesus!!!].
The bonus CD of tunes is a good laugh as well,I play it in the car to annoy the kids.
All in all a great laugh and its true what another poster has said, once you start watching you can't stop.
BUY IT!!!

these series by peter kay are nothing short of comical genius! for anyone who has ever worked in social clubs you will have seen these characters 100's of times and for every one else they are just hilarious portrayals of characters he has met on his journey's. I have seen these dvd's too many times to count and they just get funnier every time the only bad thing is once you start watching them you can't stop and find hours passing by as you watch episode after episode!!! peter kay will go on to be a comedy legend especially for this genius show!!

Excellent light entertainment- it was so good that I watched all the episodes over 3 days on holiday with a friend who had already seen them and she enjoyed them all the second time round. Hope there's another series
