The nuts and bolts of a Landrover Restoration Explained4
This book is a must for the first time (or even seasoned) Landrover restorer and enthusiast. It provides detailed information and comprehensive pictures of how to dismantle and rebuild Series Landrovers. It includes a 'what to look for when buying' guide, and is an invaluable aid. Try not to get too many greasy thumbprints on it though, it is a reference source that should last a lifetime! My only gripe is that is concentrates far more on Series 1 and 2 models than it does on the 3. So perhaps a future revision should be to incorporate more data for Series 3 owners and perhaps even later models.

Jack of all trades Master of none!2
Felt disappointed after purchasing this book; generally feel it's missing too much out. Some areas are covered well, better than the standard Haynes manual, other sections need to be expanded further, after all this book is titled 'restoration'! Think the money would be better spent on the original Land Rover workshop manuals, even though they cost a lot more. The authors need to revise the first two sections, too much of this manual is spent on the history of Land Rover, showing pictures of all the different series vehicles made and buying tips (the first 45 pages)! They need to concentrate more on what the book is titled!

Nice pictures, but not much practical workshop use2
We recently rebuilt a disassembled a 1949 Series One Land Rover, hoping this book would help us. Though the engine part is quite good, many other things are only covered in pictures without explanations or are simply an ode to Dunsfold. Electrics are not explained at all. There is not enough to cover each model and it takes more than 130 pages till the authors actually start writing about a real life project. Why they come up with things like 'free-wheeling hubs save fuel' without any figures to prove that remains their secret.
I'd rather buy the original workshop manual for the model you want to restore, which we did of course.
