Synopsis
The Austin Seven has such a strong following that it remains to this day our most popular pre-war car. It was also Britain's cheapest and most successful pre-war car, with nearly 300,000 built.Followers of the Austin Seven know what a complex family tree of models evolved over the years. The information needed to determine how a restored car should look is difficult to find, especially as the model range is so wide, but help is at hand in this book. This painstakingly researched book aims to reveal how these charming cars altered in detail over the years.
Customer Reviews
For sticklers for originality of Austin Sevens
I was very pleased to receive this book as it is the only book concerning itself with how these cars were when new. The photographs are excellent and it covers all the Austin Seven models I have come across. If I had had this book thirty years ago it would have saved me from making mistakes which I am still correcting now. My only criticism is that most of the photographs seem to be of cars which have been restored rather than unrestored 'as original' cars but I suppose that such cars are quite rare.
Original Austin ven
I had bee hoping to be able to get this book for several years; I thought it was out of print. It is exactly as it describes itself - lots of clear, helpful photographs of all the A7 models, English, French, German and American.
I have a Speedy replica and needed clear images of the dash and hood installation; there they were, clear and reasonable size; just what I bought the book for. I don't often find an A7 book with MORE information in it than I need; this book is a cornucopia of useful stuff - the right type of sidelamp for your "Cup" replica? There it is.
I would recommend this book to anyone restoring or maintaining their Austin Seven - no connection with the author!
Beautiful Book
Not so much a "Restorers Guide" in the technical sense, but a collection of some very good, detailed, photographs. The quality of the pictures is what this book is about. There are pictures showing examples of many detail changes over a wide range of models all beautifully executed with pertinent and informative captions. Much of the text is historical, development related and familiar to anyone who already has an interest in the A7. This is not a "how to" book, but it is a "how it should look" book.
