Superb, but shop around for best prices
Having owned a Sony HDM95P X-Black, I was looking for a larger and as good a monitor as the Sony. Did lots of research and found the Samsung T220. The Samsung lacks the glossy screen of the Sony, but more than matches it for colour reproduction. Fantastic refresh rate and contrast ratio, although the latter figure is purely academic unless you intend to use it for games or DVD's. The bundled software is somewhat useless. However, do download the Vista driver from Samsung's website, as Microsoft's generic drivers are rather basic if functional. A good graphics card is a must to get the best out of this monitor. Set up is simple enough, although the Dynamic Contrast does make the screen overly bright. The Samsung lacks the auto dimmer of the Sony and I found this to be a nuisance initially. Buyer beware, because the 20,000 to 1 contrast ratio is only effective in certain modes, and can be slow to react. Best to select Magicolour then adjust settings manually. Once set up, the colour rendition is just great, although again, the Sony set up had sensors that adjusted to external light sources and corrected accordingly. The design is pretty and the red LED strip is very subtle and gives the Samsung a great presence of beauty on the desktop. Connections are well catered for. No wall mount facility on this range of monitors. Also the base allows the monitor to wobble a bit. The Sony was priced at a whopping £499 when new in 2004, and in terms of colour and ease of use, there wasn't much that could touch it. Well, now there is. Just such a shame that Samsung haven't pulled out all the stops and included auto dimming and glazed the LCD screen. One excellent feature however is the ability to use printer profiles on screen. So if you own the Epson R1800, R2400 series, you can download the ICC profiles and use them as set up profiles. In effect, the colours you see are exactly what will be printed. As stated, shop around for prices. I got mine from Comet for £199.00. Summary: For games and DVD's, fantastic. For editing photo's or video, fantastic. For doing spreadsheets, documents, etc, far too bright. Overall, a great product well worthy of being on your short list.

Seriously good for the money
As a professional photographer and graphic designer I'm fussy about image quality. I rely on colour-calibrated monitors which cost many times as much as the Samsung. So I wasn't expecting miracles when I bought the SyncMaster T220 to use as a secondary monitor. I was wrong. It's a great product, more than adequate for general graphics and photo work. Image quality is good using the menu presets, and even better after calibration. Works fine with Mac and PC via DVI. The picture is good via the VGA link as well, making it a great choice for laptop connection. PCPro magazine's "A LIst" rating seems fully justified. Minor niggles: the stand is a tad wobbly, and the menu buttons are fiddly.

Delighted with this Monitor but desperately poor manual
Samsung T220 - I bought this monitor after much research, reading the reviews here and the fact that it received a PC Pro A List award. The price on Amazon was well below what I expected to pay and this has made my purchase even sweeter. Also, really happy with Amazon's supersaver delivery, it arrived only 3 days after my order.

The monitor is Samsung's usual superior quality and beautifully designed. I bought it to replace a Samsung SM171s which has provided several years of great service. The T220 is no disappointment. The colours are vibrant and the picture crisp. The adjustments possible are too numerous to go through but I would be very surprised if anyone could not get a pleasing picture from this monitor whatever the end use.
I particularly wanted a screen for my photo editing and I have managed to set up a colour profile that works well with photoshop and outputs well to my printer.

There is a problem however. The user guide is woefully lacking with any assitance on how to use the bundled software for tuning the monitor. I refer to "Magic Tune", "Natural Colour" and "Multi Screen". The only information in the manual explains how to install and uninstall each application, but provides no information relating to what each application is for or how to use it. It took me several hours of research to finally work out what everything does and how to make it work for me. The Samsung website has no further information either!

So, this monitor would have received a 5 star verdict from me, but the poor manual means I have deucted 1 star. It's still a great monitor and I have not experienced any of the problems with the stand wobbling mentioned in other reviews.
