Product Description
Middlesbrough star Willie Maddren penned his autobiography, Extra Time, two years before he died of motor neurone disease (MND) in 2000, aged 49.
The Haverton Hill-born centre-back made more than 350 appearances for the club in a career spanning 10 years.
He returned to Ayresome Park as manager between June 1984 and February 1986 after having his playing career cut short by a knee injury at the age of 26.
Maddren's proudest achievement as a player was winning the Second Division championship in 1973-1974.
He was appointed Boro manager in June 1984.
But they were troubled times for the club and he was sacked in February 1986 as the Teessiders headed for the Third Division and bankruptcy.
One of the Boro's finest ever players, Maddren's name lives on in the Willie Maddren Centre and the Riverside Stadium.
