Magix Movie Edit Pro 2005
This very nearly went in the bin after just 24 hours. The interface is not as intuitive as it could be and the "manual" is truely appalling. I'm glad to say I perservered.
Once you get to grips with it this is a great piece of software - far, far better than the monumentally unstable Pinnacle Studio I was using before. There are plenty of features and the timeline editing is excellent as is the inbuilt DVD burning capability. It does lack a couple of the better transitions I used in Pinnacle Studio but then let's face it, a lot of people ruin their home movies with overuse of inappropriate transitions.
I definitely couldn't recommend this to a novice but, as long as you are reasonably computer literate and are prepared to spend a bit of time finding your way around, it is great value at less than £35. If Magix would only supply a proper manual it would rate 5 stars.
Simply the best
O.K. so this may not be the best option for someone new to video making, but if you have a basic computer knowledge and enjoy experimenting, then it really is worth investing in this software. I have used Adobe Premier, which only really runs well on an imac, and Pinnacle Studio, which was great until they released their latest version. So I thought I would try Magix Movie Maker Pro 2005. Wow!!! I couldn,t believe how powerful this programme is. Mastering the basics is pretty easy. Every time I use it I find something new and it never ceases to amaze me. The best video editing software on the market. Simply the best.
Fantastic value for money.
A friend of mine has the professional version of Adobe Premier, but that was way out of my price range, so I had to hunt around for something that looked good at a budget price.
I've used earlier versions of Ulead's editing software with my old analogue camera, but had a lot of problems with it, so despite the rave reviews for Uleads offering I wanted to avoid their package.
As I'd used Magix sound editing programs before and always found them stable I thought I'd give their video editing software a try.
I am glad I did. At £34.99 for the 2005 version, it's a bargain. I showed the software to the friend who uses Premier Pro and he was very impressed and is going to buy a copy. He said it compares very well and does stuff easier in many cases than the Adobe product. He'll keep Adobe as his primary editing tool, but will run this one on his second computer.
I only gave it four out of five because it does have a couple of let-downs. Firstly the manual is a flimsy get-started guide, which I wouldn't mind if the help screens were good. But it looks to me like this product was rushed out. Some of the help is still in German!
But if you play about with it you'll soon get the hang of it, I just feel it would be quicker to get the hang of if the help and/or manual was any good.
Regardless of that, it's still a bargain and it runs nice and fast on my fairly humble 2.4ghz computer (512mb ram/120gb hard disk).
