'Inimitable. Pam carries the audience in the palm of her hand . . . so warm and human.'

About the Author
It’s over 30 years since Pam first appeared on the TV talent show ‘Opportunity Knocks’, and since then her comic poems have contributed enormously to the wider appeal today of all forms of poetry. Many of Pam’s poems feature in anthologies used in schools around the world. She’s been a regular on TV and Radio over the years – on BBC Radio 2 with her own series, The Comedy Quiz, Pam Ayres’ Sunday Afternoon and Pam Ayres’ Open Road, and on Radio 4 in Just A Minute, That Reminds Me, The Right Time, Wireless Wise, and her own recent Radio 4 series Ayres On The Air. She was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2004.

A book to enjoy for all ages
Pam Ayres is one of those rare people who can bring tears of laughter to her audience with her gentle humour, whatever their age. These poems are from her early years and seem just as fresh as ever. Pam has written some introductions to the poems and there are some nice line drawings. I think most people will have heard at least one of the poems; I'm half expecting Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall to recite "The Battery Hen" at any moment, it is just as true now as it ever was.
I can't imagine anyone not getting enjoyment from this book, it proves that poetry doesn't have to be dull.
IF LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE EVERYONE SHOULD OWN THIS BOOK
I remember watching Pam on Opportunity Knocks when I was 11 and I loved her poems then, this is the 1st book I've bought of hers and I'm so glad I did, It's so hillarious, when trying to read out a poem to my mum I had to keep stopping as I was doubled up with laughter, "Do you think Bruce Springstein would fancy me" "I wish I'd looked after me teeth" and "Please will you take your children home before I do them in" and "aerobics" are my favourites, they crack me up every time, Buy this book, you'll be glad you did!
a happy book
Pam Ayres had recently appeared on the TV Channel Four programme "Countdown" and recited a wonderful set of poems.
The book was mentioned in the programme so I bought it as a present to my wife. She loves it!
