Splendid!
Proof that Ustinov is a cultural treasure. This broad satire on fifties motor racing features Peter Ustinov providing not only all the voices (various announcers, officials, drivers and team owners) but also the sounds of the cars!
Wonderfully politically incorrect - the French are idle scroungers, the Italians always protesting, the Americans lazy and unionised, the English a bunch of incompetent amateurs, the Italians devious and political, the Germans militarily correct and the Russian observer is a spy - there's something to mildly offend everyone here.
Racing fans will recognise the parodies of the Vanwall, Ferrari, Gordini, Cunningham and Mercedes teams and recognise Gibraltar as a thinly-disguised Monaco - non-devotees will just enjoy Ustinov's incredible facility with words, accents, sounds, and his freewheeling imagination.
A fantastic hour's entertainment. Recommended to anyone who loves classic comedy or motor racing.
One of a kind
A fantastic CD well worth buying and listening to over and over. Peter Ustinov is an extraordinarily talented man and after hearing this CD its obvious that he possesses has the unique power to make people laugh continously throughout. Definitley worth the 5 stars, particularly for anyone who can manage that amount of voice/character changes and sound like a different person every time.
classic piece of comedy history
this is very funny. ustinov is brilliant in his improvisation. a great gift for anyone of the older generation, especially with an interest in motorsport, but should make just about anyone laugh! we love it.
