Mike Harding - serious for once
Fantastic CD, all the serious Harding stuff I like - Accrington Pals, Bombers Moon and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. All of which remind us of the futility of war, they let us all know its the little man who suffers.
Carry on singing these Mike, they are too good to lose.
Moving music
Tunes from a much under-rated folk singer. Forget the comedian and listen to the words of Bombers Moon; this brought tears to my eyes, and I'm a natural cynic. Coupled with "And the Band played Waltzing Matilda" you have songs that are the equal of any of the acclaimed war poets.
This isn't finger in the ear fol-de-rol folk, but music of the people who put the great into Great Britain.
I can't recommend this album enough.
Mike Harding revisited
When the album was first released it was a real hit and I was really chuffed to replace my worn out tape with something I could play in the car and on my music system. Not much detail lost in translation to cd but some of the warmth and character has gone. Not much to sacrifice for a playable version.
