Customer Reviews
Even funnier upon subsequent viewings!
Yes, Hinge and Bracket are funny! Very funny. From your first exposure to them you will find them unimaginably entertaining. But I find them even funnier upon the third viewing or the fifth. Now how often does that happen? It is a rare occurrence indeed! And the happiest news of all is that Series II will be available on DVD soon. I simply cannot wait for the next set to arrive! The George Logan interview in the DVD Extras is of special interest - don't miss it!

this series should be shown on the bbc - the rubbish they bung on that's about as funny as a wasp sting (rolls eyes)
i think if the BBC re-launched Dear Ladies - they would find a whole new audience
The second visit to Stackton Tressel.
'Dear Ladies' is a comedy about two upper class elderly spinster Ladies who live in the village of Stackton Tressel. This is a world of afternoon tea, smoke salmon sandwiches, or Emva Cream sherry. The ladies themselves are Dr.Evadne Hinge, the one with the Brown half moon glasses on a chain and Dame Hilda Bracket is the blond one with the lop sided mouth. Dame Hilda drives round the village in her lovely vintage car, while Dr.Evadne relies on her faithful old tricycle and cart. Funniest moments are Dame Hilda picking a lovely red rose from the garden, she smells it's perfume and ends up with a bee pearching on the end of her nose, then the screw comes out of her long handled lawn edging shears and they fall apart, so she hops off on one leg, ''Arr Jim Lad'', using the two halves as crutches, like pirots use to use. In this second series Evadne and Hilda decide to do the things they did when they were younger, they both go to the children's playground, Evadne has a go on the slide, whilst Hilda decides to try out the swings and makes friends with a little girl, who gives Hilda such a push, she sends her flying off the swing, landing flat on her face in the grass, ''swing me higher, Obadiah, do'', Dr.Evadne and Dame Hilda take a trip to the funfair and go on all the rides, including the children's merry go round. Dame Hilda goes hospital visiting (only the once) to see Evadne, they both agree Stackton badly needs hospital radio and who better to do it than them. Dr.Evadne, is out for a ride on her faithful old tricycle, she dismounts to give a donkey a carrot (and one of her best hats). Dame Hilda decides to take up ladies golf, all she needs is an iron, ''oh no i won't, we've got a very good steam one at home'' and some golf tee's, ''aren't those pretty little candle holders''. Dr.Evadne gets drenched in water from the hose pipe on Hilda's new washing machine and Dame Hilda chats quite happily to her beloved goldfish Sandy, whilst giving him his food, ''oh Sandy, i don't know how you can eat these ant eggs, nasty things'', she continues ''well now, be a good boy that's it, wish me good luck, i'm playing my way into the golf club today and your auntie Evadne is going to be taking her driving test, hope the roads are clear''. This DVD includes a 'Dear Ladies' special called 'Dear Ladies Masterclass', where Hinge and Bracket teach two students all they know about music. The magic of this wonderful double act is George Logan and Patrick Fyffe as Hinge and Bracket really looked like two elderly Ladies. This series is not like any other comedy, it is lovely, innocent and a real tonic. Episodes include- 'The Time Of Our Lives', 'In Sickness And In Health', 'A Fete Worse Than...' and 'Gala Girls'.
