Devon and Cornwall were once great metal mining regions, but today all that remains are the roofless engine houses and empty tunnels underground. This book contains a selection of historic photographs from the British Geological Survey, showing both large and small mines, long-lasting and transient, and how they worked above and below ground. The techniques, machinery and processes are illustrated and described, and for some of the mines, the decline is also recorded.
