Customer Reviews

A truly astounding album5
I heard this album by accident (my neighbour was playing what I later discovered was Guld Blevet till Sand(The Gold Has Turned To Sand), so I borrowed it. Kristina is a Swedish musical written by the two men from ABBA, soon to come to the US in English.

The musical ranges from classical to country to huge ballads such as the one I have just mentioned. When anglicised, songs such as Du Muste Finas (You Must Exist), Hemma (Home), Ut Mot Ett Hav (Out Towards A Sea), Här Har Du Mej Igen (You Have Me Here Again), Var Hör Vi Hemma (Where Do We Call Home, and the spine-tingling end song I Gott Bevar (In Good Keeping), will become classics.

Forget that might never have heard it, or that it's in Swedish - if you like epic musicals JUST BUY IT!

Andersson & Ulvaeus's Masterwork5
It always concerned me that after hearing Benny Andersson's solo albums I would find "Kristina Fran Duvemala" far too heavy and bordering on the operatic, how wrong could I have been. This three CD set is simply stunning and after spending a whole afternoon listening to this in one go I found it absolutely fantastic. The vocal performances of Helen Sjohlm,Anders Ekborg and Peter Joback are truly exceptional and the songs are remarkable. Reviewers have already mentioned "Guldet Blev Till Sand" which is wonderful but "Du Maste Finnas","Ut Mot Ett Hav",Ljusa Kvaller Om Varen","Hemma"and my current favourite "Vildgras"are equally brilliant. These recordings from 1996 are probably Andersson & Ulvaeus's finest achievements to date and have no comparison to the current "Mamma Mia" productions.Having followed Benny and Bjorns work for many years its not hard to recognise "Kristina" as a very natural progression from all they did with Abba and their other musical "Chess".The fact that this production is performed in swedish has no bearing on the quality of the music and the performances and with a little help from the internet the plot is easily accessable. I can only hope someday It will be performed outide their native sweden and recieve the long over-due success in the rest of the world it truly deserves.

Forget Waterloo,and try this!5
After hearing"Guldet blev till sand" on Swedish radio I turned to good old Amazon for the source. The CD,s arrived this morning and it is truly beautiful. As with most musicals, some numbers need listening to several times, but the quality of song and music composing is first class. For any one who wants to read the story behind it first, look for Wilhelm mobergs,s books " The Emigrant Novels".If all you,ve ever known about Sweden was Abba,Volvo, and blonde swedish girls, try the books and the musical. It will give you a new insight into a beautifulcountry
