Synopsis
Here at last is the sensational sequel to "Papillon" - the great story of escape and adventure that took the world by storm. "Banco" continues the adventures of Henri Charriere - nicknamed 'Papillon' - in Venezuela, where he has finally won his freedom after thirteen years of escape and imprisonment. Despite his resolve to become an honest man, Charriere is soon involved in hair-raising exploits with goldminers, gamblers, bank-robbers and revolutionaries - robbing and being robbed, his lust for life as strong as ever. He also runs night-clubs in Caracas until an earthquake ruins him in 1967 - when he decides to write the book that brings him international fame. Henri Charriere died in 1973 at the age of 66.

A further insight into Papillon's character.5
When I first read 'Papillon' I had no idea that there was a sequel. I was over the moon when I finally discovered it, and I wasn't disappointed! This book follows pretty much straight on from the last one as Papillon becomes a Venezuelan citizen and starts to carve a new life for himself as a free man. If you loved the original book then you'll love this one too. It answers a lot of questions as well. In the first book he constantly insists his innocence, going over and over the events that had led him to be 'unfairly' branded a crimal and sent to the French penal colonies. In this book you get a deeper insight into his character and you begin to realise that he almost definitely was guilty. Brilliant stuff!

Satisfied my curiosity and closed the saga nicely!4
After reading "Papillon" I was chuffed to note there was a sequel, "Banco". The book is like a series of short stories, each one enlightening and further showing the spirit and determination of this remarkable man. The style and fluency of the writing continues on from "Papillon", and it is almost as unputdownable. "Papillon" leaves you wanting to know more and "Banco" gives you the chance to see how the rest of his life panned out. I have consequently been fascinated with all things related to the penal colony and have read a couple of other books written by men who have been condemned there: "Dry Guillotine" by Rene Belbenoit and "The Convict" by Felix Milani.

The extraordinary life of Papillon is continued...5
After having read the first book i decided it was time to watch the film again. Whilst purchasing the dvd on this site i also notice there was a second book, something i did not know about. Of course i purchased straight away and did not regret it. The book is brilliant and written in that same excellent and memorable style of the first book. You would have thought after having finally be released his life would be so much better, but there are yet more trials and tribulations awaiting Papillon in this book.
