Product Description

This recipe book was inspired by the writer's son who left for university with virtually no cooking ability. He did, however, like to eat!
There are 96 full colour pages with photographs of each recipe - most students seem to complain that "they can't see what it looks like" and so they don't bother.
No measuring scales are required - only a mug, tablespoon and teaspoon. These are found in student kitchens but not much more!
The stitched and glued spine, heavy plastic cover and glossy pages allow it to be laid out flat without damage and rubbed clean easily. All this makes it ideal for "challenging" student kitchen environments.
The recipes are planned so that you need the minimum of pans, dishes and utensils.
The star ratings ***** are an indication of how easy the recipes are.
Most of the meals in the book are healthy and well balanced but there is the odd over indulgent one!
Approximately half the recipes are either vegetarian or have a vegetarian alternative. If you are a "fish eating vegetarian" then there are plenty of recipes for you also.

Editorial Reviews

Metro's "Five essential reads" for students.
"Joy May's guide teaches you how to use affordable and
easy-to-get ingredients to make simple recipes that are a lot more exciting
than the usual pasta or beans on toast".

From the Publisher
For the vegetarian there is also "Vegetarian nosh 4
students" which is a perfect partner for this book.

From the Author
This book was inspired by my son Ben. He left for University with virtually no ability to cook, apart from toasted ham sandwiches. He soon began to ring home to ask how to cook various things. I sent him a few index cards with recipes on them but they had no visual imagery to inspire him or for him to understand what the food should look like when finished. I searched for a good visual student cookbook but could not find one, so I decided to produce one, not just for Ben but for the other students like him. I hope that you enjoy these recipes.

Customer Reviews

Excellent starting point4
I recommend this book as an excellent starting point for home made meals. Everything can be made with cheap and fresh ingredients and there's bound to be plenty of recipes in there that are new to you.

The recipes are easy to make and once you get used to them, just as quick as getting a takeaway.

Yummy meals :D totally recommended5
I bought this book, as i have just moved out of my parents house without any knowledge of cooking. I bought this book on a whim, and i have nearly done all the meals in the book. most of the ingredients u can find in a kitchen cupboard, which is great on a tight bugdet, all the meals i have cooked so far from this book are very tastey, and something i never thought i would be able to make, but the instructions are very simple and easy to follow. seriously recommend to any student or parents worried about their kids burnin down thier kitchen. great starter pack for any novice like myself.

A Value For Money Book For Value For Money Meals!5
This book has revolutionised my eating habits!

The idea of writing a menu for a week and thus planning what you need to buy will also revolutionise your spending habits too.

Gone are the days of a freezerful of expensive processed foods, The days of healthy, fun, real food and cooking are here!

Everything about the book is brilliantly thought out, from the font and pictures to the dish difficulty rating and the "how long can I keep this....?" section.

The recipes are mostly quick, use a minimum of equipment and are healthy too - packed full of good, inexpensive vegetables. One of the best things I've discovered is the ease with which you can modify a recipe. You can generally add and subtract according to your tastes. I never stick to the sample menus (I'm fussy), but I'll make my own up.

Recipe's I highly recommend:
-Monday Pie
-Creamy Chicken
-Pasta & Chicken Bake
-Sausage Pie
