A good book for self-study
A clearly laid out format with simple explanations, ideal for people who are just starting to learn linguistics.
A great introductory text
I'd recommend this text to anyone beginning their studies in Linguistics. It covers all the essentials, and more in lots of cases. However, the phonetic transcription used (and the assumption of an American accent rather than standard English) makes some examples unclear. All the same, definitely one to consider.
