Editorial Reviews

The Oldie
Our very own Edward Enfield's stories will make you weep with laughter.

Brighton Argus
Harry Enfield's dad finds the bicycle ideal transport for sightseeing and reflection.

Synopsis
'At one moment you seem to be in the Lake District; then you could be on the moon; they you are in a wilderness; and then beside a Norwegian fjord.' When Edward decided to cycle around Ireland, he was enchanted by prehistoric fortresses, rugged landscapes, and landladies who insisted on washing his shirts. He takes you with him on a gentle ride up the west coast, eating fresh fish and enormous breakfasts along the way, and stopping to chat to peat-cutters, fishermen, eccentric tourists and a famous matchmaker. With his trademark dry wit, observant eye and a sense of the absurd, he is the perfect companion for a tour of Ireland's most beautiful areas from the lakes of Killarney to the idyllic Joyce's Country, and from the dolmens of Clare to the deserts and neolithic remains of Mayo.

Customer Reviews

Pedal Power4
Follow the author on his cycling trip along the west coast of Ireland, meeting interesting people and sites along the way.The book is a lovely gentle travelogue, mixed with humour and witty observation. I had a chuckle over the the Japanese guests in the local B&B and Edward's attempts to communicate. Edward Enfields love of Ireland, its people and the scenery come across well through the pages of this book. Bryson it isn't but I wouldn't hesitate to read other books like this.It made an enjoyable holiday read. Put on your cycle clips and enjoy.

A NICE gentle travelogue of Ireland5
I thoroughly enjoyed this little book. It's not full-on and doesn't stretch you - it's just a nice gentle travel guide of Edward Enfield's (Harry Enfield's father) journeys around Ireland on his bicycle. Edward is obviously one of life's gentlemen and his wit and decency shine through this book. If you'd like a cycle journey through Ireland hand-in-hand with a gent then buy this book.
