Synopsis
Sonea knows the other novices in the Magicians' Guild all come from powerful families, but she also knows she can turn to Rothen and Dannyl for help when she needs it. That is, until someone starts spreading malicious rumours about her - and Akkarin, the High Lord, steps in. Prompted by the Guild Ambassador, Lord Dannyl leaves for the Elyne court. His first order from Administrator Lorlen is to resume, in secret, High Lord Akkarin's long-abandoned research into ancient magical knowledge. Not knowing the true reason for his journey, Dannyl is soon facing unexpected dangers. Meanwhile, Sonea has almost forgotten the High Lord's dark secret, but keeping the truth hidden may be a grave mistake.

Customer Reviews

A consistently readable Trilogy4
This trilogy is very good reading. It's not the most sophisticated writing you could find, not least because the author spells out the range of character's possible thoughts to situations in a rather obvious way. But this makes it an easy read, where you're never wondering whether you've missed something. The second book is the weakest, rather over-egging the unpopularity of the heroine, but it's worth it for the grand crescendo of the third - the best of the books, but which you can't read without its two predecessors. A great holiday read.

Good, very readable4
I thought this book was very good, i did like the way Trudi took time to let you explore Sonea's new life in the guild, and although your not in the same situation as Sonea, you can related to what she's going through, with the bullying and the first kiss.

I loved the climate battle at the end of the book, it developed Sonea's character, sand also showed another side to her enemy.

The only thing i can find wrong is that Cery seemed to be forgotten!
Hopfully he'll feature more in the next book!

No star!!1
After reading the Magician's Guild, I thought this trilogy showed promise, and promptly bought the Novice and the High Lord. What a let down. This book is nothing short of dire!!

Almost 600 pages of nothing. There is no story. Nothing of any consequence happens. Characters are wooden and lacking spark. I don't understand how so many people have rated it so highly. There are much better books out there. It is so bad I can't even bring myself to read the High Lord, because I no longer care what happens. Most boring of all was Lord Dannyl's so called travels and adventures trying to dig up information about the High Lord. It just went on and on and on.

Having said all that. Some people obviously enjoyed the book. However, I for one am sending all three to the charity shop.

Soooooo boring!
