Synopsis
One day a rift opens along the border between Spain and France, and the Iberian peninsula floats off across the Atlantic, a great stone raft. But what of the floating population? While the tourists and investors flee, the Spanish and Portuguese escape the coast and wander the inland roads.

Customer Reviews

You will fall in love with this book.5
The Stone Raft is where we are, where difference between realism and fantasia is unclear, where the 'butterfly effect' is the ruling order. It is a story of two love stories and two journeys, of fantasy stretched into reality and creating the beginning of... the Iberian peninsula is separated from Europe, and Portugal and Spain begin a journey into the ocean, of which consequences nobody knows. With grace and humour, courage and artistic-flow, Saramago is crafting relationships between people, earth and causation, politics and romance. This is one of the best novels I have ever read, and certainly the best novel written by a living author. I think Saramago's writing overrided Borges, and even Marquez. You will love it.

Fantastic4
'The Stone Raft' is another winner from this author. If you enjoyed 'All the Names' then you'll enjoy this one as well. Enjoyable reading from beginning to end.
