Manufacturer's Description
The Nokia 1208 is a dependable mobile phone which comes in the form of a classic style handset. The main colour of the handset is silver from the front & dark grey on the reverse. The user can express their individual taste by selecting either a black gloss edging or a bright blue coloured edging.
The handset is incredibly user friendly which makes this design popular for those users who want a phone to be a phone & not a highly technical communication device. The Nokia 1208 is a lightweight mobile phone which feels good to hold with its 102mm x 44.1mm x 17.5mm sized casing. The screen provides the user with a black & white display on a LCD screen complete with a green backlight & screen resolution of 96 pixels x 68 pixels.
The screen shows a large clock wallpaper which allows the user to check to time easily when the handset is not in use. The keypad comes with well spaced out keys & the keypad is dust resistant which prevents damage to the keypad. The user will find the one touch shortcut key a pleasure to use which allows the user to gain quick access to features including text messages, calendar feature, contacts details, loudspeaker & flashlight. The flashlight feature allows the user to lighten up their environment with a flashlight feature built into their mobile phone.

Back to the world of a simple phone
After going through the usual treadmill of contracts and ever increasingly complex phones, I finally realised the expense of always getting the lastest 3G MP3 MP4 10 megapixle camera phone just didn't add up anymore. I ditched the contract, picked up a pay-as-you-go sim, and bought this phone. I've never been happier. The signal is good, text & calls are simple and quick, the phone is tough as old boots. Most of all, I still cannot believe just how long the battery lasts without re-charge. Most of the basic range Nokia's seem to share long battery life, but the 1208 has just blown me away. Will never go back to contract gadget phones again.
Very good value
I was using a Sagem C2-2 but found that the reception was not very good. So I bought this Nokia 1208 and transferred my Vodafone sim card from the Sagem to the Nokia. The reception is now very good and the feedback from those whom I speak to is that they can hear me loud and clear.
I found the ring tones loud enough not to miss any calls. The volume of these can be adjusted. Also the volume of the calls can be set to loud profile.
The keys and the display are very good. The menus are intuitive and it was easy to find the features and options that I want.
I also tested the texting and found it much better than the Sagem. It has other features too, like alarm, speaker phone, etc that are easier to use than the Sagem.
I think the Nokia 1208 is very good value if you want a phone to make and receive calls clearly and for sending and receiving text messages.
Cheap and cheerful!
Do you remember the classic Nokia phones of the late 90s/early 00s? This phone is the modern evolution -- absolutely doing more with less.
It does everything those old Nokias did: makes calls, receives calls, sets an alarm, has some games, has a contact list etc. It is a pure phone -- no internet, no MP3, no camera, no inbuilt television or NASA control centre.
It was easy to set up, too. I popped in an O2 PAYG card I had ordered from the internet, and it recognised the network immediately. Dialled the top-up number and two minutes later I had a phone with credit.
The battery seems fairly long, the shell feels tough, and it doesn't look bad either. Very light to hold. And the best part about it is the disposability factor...you won't break a sweat if this phone is snatched from your coat, or dropped from your hand.
For what it is? A comfortable five stars out of five.
