The PzKpfw V Panther is considered to be one of the finest tanks of World War II due to its combination of mobility, firepower and armour. Developed as a response to the Soviet deployment of heavy armour on the Eastern Front, and later to serve in Normandy and Northwest Europe, the Panther established its reputation as one of the first truly universal tanks and its influence can be seen in the design of modern battle tanks to this day. This book details how to model the main variants of this fascinating and significant World War II tank, and it provides a listing the main kits and aftermarket sets available.

Does the job well
I'm not a huge fan of Osprey books: I find them poor value for money, often filled with errors and frequently contain no more info than you can get online for free. I end up buying them because they have an almost monopoly on modelling & vehicle guides.
This one is well above average though. It had 3 main projects: an early D model in Kurk cammo, an Italian campaign A and as a master project the G model on the cover with full internal detail. As extras there's a small gallery of completed models, a bergepanther recovery vehicle conversion project and a scratch Pantherturn fixed gun emplacement using the bits you don't need from the bergepanther. As well as the actual tanks there are some useful tips for making terrain and converting commander figures.
It covers many of the popular kits and after market add-ons & shows how to scratch build some parts without needing an engineering workshop. Its got some neat tricks too, especially how to make a zimmerit tool from pins & how to stencil hard edged cammo (the G on the cover was painted by cutting out masks from supermarket bags and using low tack adhesive to stick them in place). It recommends a range of paints all easily found and has clear step by step instructions.
About the only real drawback is that the projects are quite ambitious and better suited to very competent modellers... precisely the people who need this book the least. However it still has plenty of tips and inspirational ideas that anyone should be able to draw on.
