Average customer review:Product Description
The first edition of this book sold extremely well when first published in 1987, reprinting twice during the 1990s. Written by a professional model-maker, this is a fascinating insight into high-end railway modelling and a great source of inspiration for beginners and experts alike. The second edition has been significantly updated with new material and photographs, and covers the many technological developments since the previous edition, such as digital command control. This book is an essential addition to the bookshelves of all serious railway modellers.

Customer Reviews
A good practical guide
I had my doubts when I first read the book but as I have often referred back to it the value is higher than I first thought. It is going to be the case that many of the items will be familiar to modellers yet there is always something that is either new to one's experience or new because considered from a different angle. So all in all a fairly good guide to the subject but mostly for relative newcomers. I found that my principle interest was in the way that knowledge about a specific subject was put together and shown to be easily achievable; this is encouraging. My main niggle was that it was not always clear which scale of model was being discussed. This led me to often think to copy an idea in the space described and then to find that it was in N scale and not 00.
The Professional Approach to Model Railways
The concept of the new book is that of a updated reference manual, whereby the reader refers to the book on how to design, to construct and to landscape a model railway layout. The 3 new layouts shown in the second edition cover N, HOe & OO scales. The book with its extra 16 pages now covers track and wiring in greater detail, as well as some simple projects. The interesting conclusion is that over the years other reviewers of the earlier book state that they refer back to the book over and over again.
