Manufacturer's Description
BlackSite: Area 51 is a next-generation game that redefines the first person shooter (FPS) genre. While other FPS titles claim to feature ‘action-packed, highly realistic gameplay’, BlackSite: Area 51 takes next-gen gaming to an all-new level integrating cutting edge technology, game design and story writing to create the ultimate entertainment experience. The player’s modern-day emotions and fears are driven into a world charged with grave responsibility affecting lives hanging in the balance, eventually finding himself torn between his professional orders and his own ethical standards. In the end, only the actions of the player and his squad can shape the outcome of BlackSite: Area 51 during this potentially pivotal moment in history.

Aliens are Coming!
If there is one genre that the 360 does not suffer a lack of it is the First Person Shooter (FPS). On a console that contains such classics as `Half Life 2', `Bioshock' and `Halo 3' (to name but three) anything short of excellent is shot down in flames and this is what happened to `Blacksite' on its release. Immediately pigeon holed as not good enough people choice to ignore it, but this is a shame as there is a reasonable game here. `Blacksite' will win no awards, but of the other FPSs out there it is amongst the better ones. You take the role of a solider that has been sent into Redneck America to uncover the strange goings on. It seems that aliens have invaded and you must get to the root of the problem.
`Blacksite' is like any other FPS; the controls are solid as is the gun fire. There are a varied enough number of enemies to keep it interesting and the banter between you and the other soldiers in your group is decent. There is the basic ability to send your men into battle first before you which is interesting too. However, nothing goes above acceptable and it makes the game average. The story mode is a little short and the battles slightly uninspiring. This is a game that can now be picked up at a cheaper price and I think £15 or so is perfectly an acceptable price to pay. Average, but fun.
Better than anticipated....
Okay, so another shooter for our, lets admit it, already pretty saturated shooter market. Blacksite takes a number of ideas from higher profile titles, mixes them up with a b-movie plot and some good graphics, and gives you a fairly short campaign mode and your typical multiplayer modes. However, the game also provides one thing missing far too often for me - a healthy dose of entertainment. From start to finish Blacksite is fun to play, which is surely what we all play our games for. Blacksite is not worth the full retail price, but if you can pick it up cheaply, then I would suggest you give it a chance, rather than missing another solid title from Midway.
Don't be fooled by the cover.
Bought this game with some HMV vouchers and am glad it wasn't my money I wasted. I'm hoping I can get away with returning it because I realised after 2 minutes that Blacksite is a cold turkey. Having just finished the likes of Halo 3, GOW and COD 4 I was looking forward to some good action. There should be an H after the S in Blacksite.
There really is no statisfaction I can draw from the gameplay. It feels like something that should have been released years ago on Playstation 1. Its far from Next Gen stuff. Games on the old xbox have shown more realism when you down an enemy with a head shot or opened up on 'em with your assualt rifle. The developers have removed all the best bits gamers enjoy. I'm surprised the developers allowed its release. It couldn't do their reputation any good.
The best thing will be fooling HMV into giving me my money back. Shame I can't just tell them how bad the game sucks.
