Asus Eee Top All-in-One PC (1602-WT-X0010) - An excellent idea slightly flawed
I bought this machine primarily for its touch screen facility to make it easier for my disabled daughter to access PC technology.
On the Plus Side:
1. This is a very beautiful, solidly built computer. I am referring to the all white version. The blue LEDS is a nice touch.
2. This is a very easy machine to operate particularly if you can't use a keyboard or mouse. Switching the machine on is very easy even for my daughter.
3. The touchscreen works extremely well, but I have reduced the screen resolution ensuring it is easier for my daughter to activate the desktop icons as her fingers are a little unsteady.
4. The touch screen mirrors the mouse properties so can be set to single tap rather than 2 taps on the screen to activate applications.
5. It is good for basic programs, internet and simple games and standard resolution video play.
6. A good number of usb sockets. Happily runs external HD and DVD drives(almost! see below). Good large hard drive - 160 GB is just right.
7. Generally as long as you are not running graphic intensive applications - if watching a DVD is intensive? this is a peppy little machine.
8. Most importantly is happy using it and does not get frustrated too quickly.
On The Minus Side:
1. It's best potential feature is also its worst (Asus I hope you are listening!). Easy mode is an excellent idea, but it is completely none editable. My daughter does find it very easy to use, but it must be editable so user wanted applications can be accessed and not just those Asus thinks are important!
2. Graphically it is slightly underpowered if you play video for more than 30 minutes. The image will stammer, freeze and the audio can be out of sync. The only way round this is to encode in MPEG 1 or AVI. Don't use VOB, or HD video you might struggle.
3. An odd complaint, but it is so portable you forget it is mains only and you really wise it did have batteries to run it as well.
4. The web camera is sadly very poor quality - avoid using it is that poor.
5. This computer maybe slightly underpowered due to shared graphics with general RAM. If it is at all possible 2 GB in this machine could be excellent - however its overall design suggest it might be difficult to add more RAM. I am still thinking about this one.

A cracking bit of kit. Not a serious games machine, but fine for Sims 2 and Office 2007. Very neat and the styling fits right in with our otherwise Mac-dedicated household. Kids love the touchcreen.
