COMPLETE RUBBISH, AVOID!
I bought this as I thought it was a solidly built kettle, not all plasticy. Looks nice, matched my dewalt 3 slice toaster in chrome & white. Excellent so I thought... until I tasted the boiled water. One of the worst cases I have ever tasted of spoilt chemical tasting water. Tried emptying, rinsing refiling numerous times. The last 5 drinks I made with it I had to tip down the sink they tasted that bad, both tea and coffee.
MORPHY RICHARDS - WAKE UP!!! test your products before putting them on the market.
Not fit for the purpose intended, to boil water. How difficult can it be? It's now on it's way back to Amazon for a refund.
fantastic kettle
Although my kettle is the chrome, not white kettle and I did not buy it at Amazon, I wish to add to the other reviews.
This alessi look-alike is, to my taste, a wonderful looking kettle. It is very well designed functionally - pours well, no drips, easy to fill, it is extremely quiet while heating and boiling, its whistle is attractive if you like whistles and the control also does not turn itself off or on other than when I turn it, I find the level indicator clear, the main switch for boiling the water does not turn itself back off and seems like any other good switch, the neon on light is clear.
I must add though that like one other reviewer I had to boil it and pour away the water many, many times initially (about a dozen times), not just the once advised by the manufacturer, before it stopped contaminating the water with foul taste. I have a reverse osmosis filter on my drinking water, so it is incredibly pure - I now can boil water and leave water in the kettle and reboil with no taste from the kettle, so the initial work has removed the factory process residues.
I love this kettle and am very happy with it.
Getting better
I love the look of this kettle, sturdy metal and the colour which is a soft white (almost cream), and the optional whistle when boiled is a cute feature which is nice for us nostalgia freaks. BUT I agree the water tasted FOUL the first few times and we were ready to pack it up and return to Amazon. However, I have found that if you always use fresh water from the cold tap which has been running for a few seconds, the water is much better. DO NOT LEAVE THE WATER IN THE KETTLE FOR A WHILE AND THEN REBOIL IT - it will taste FOUL - like a mouthful of strong swimming pool chlorine - yuk!
My tap water (in Herts) is very highly chemically treated, and although tastes OK when fresh out of the tap, the chlorine flavour starts to develop once the water is sitting around for a while (such as in a glass). OR perhaps it is the kettle? Our previous, cheap plastic kettle never tasted like this!
I am persevering in the hope that things will improve. If they do not over the next couple of months, then I will be returning it. I do suspect that perhaps it was so heavily discounted BECAUSE of this problem?? Keep you posted!
