NEW! The removable Crock pot can be used directly on the stovetop, in the microwave, in the oven and in the fridge or freezer. Versaware Crockpots are particularly good creating main meals for individuals or the family. Your meal can be prepared before work and ready at dinner time. Meat Crockpot recipes are tender, more moist, and fish recipes are soft and flaky. Crockpot creates wonderful main courses with very little time preparing. Crockpot does not apply heat directly to your ingredients, meaning food is cooked more evenly, without burning the edges. Please Note: All electrical products sold by cookinstyle (InStyle Products Limited) are supplied with a UK 3 pin plug.

The best slow-cooker I have had!
This was my 3rd slow-cooker: the original was very good, but eventually got broken, and I replaced it last year with a Cuisinart Cook and Hold. Yes, the Cuisinart is nice and big - but it didn't actually seem to be that slow, and when left on overnight food seemed to burn around the sides of the dish. Also, I had (wrongly!) assumed that it was common practice to reheat prepared dishes in the oven, as I had with my previous slow-cooker - and so without checking the instructions, put the removable dish straight into the oven one day. Ooops! The knob on the lid melted!
So - what with burned food and melted plastic, I gave up slow-cooking for a while, until I bought the Rival on impulse last week. And what a great buy it has turned out to be! We have used it 3 times in less than a week, and the food is delicious! Tender and succulent meat, great flavours, absolutely NO burning, and the dish can not only be placed in the oven and dishwasher, but also used on the hob. Fantastic!
The recipe book that comes with it is rather small, but probably gives you enough ideas to adapt your own recipes - and there are plenty of other slow-cooker books out there if want more. One other interesting point is that many of the recipes also have a 'fast' and 'slow' cooking settings, which gives you the option to either leave on overnight on 'slow' (cooking time say 10-12 hours), or to prepare a meal for the same day in a shorter time on 'fast' (with a cooking time of maybe 4-5 hours).
What an excellent slow-cooker!
Too fast for slow!
Plus points: Great casseroles and soups so far. Have successfully used the pot on the hob and in the oven, as well of course in the slow-cooker base.
Minus points: Can't see how food is cooking because lid not glass. No timer for quite an expensive bit of kit. And most of all - it's a fast cooker! Stuff boils merrily away on the low setting which (with watts gadget checker) consumes 180 watts. On high it's 200-210 watts.
In future I'll use what it calls 'warm' setting. This, the instructions warn should be only for keeping food warm. But, using 60 watts, this is my idea of slow overnight cooking.
Doesn't do everything it says on the tin!
This was my second slow cooker, purchased because it seemed to do things that other slow cookers don't. It's been returned to the shop where I purcahsed it from because I was disappointed that it didn't do everything it said.
The important thing is that this slow cooker cooks food beautifully - it doesn't burn and the food is cooked to perfection. This is the reason I've given 3 stars.
The problem is the shape. The actual cooking pot is an unusual shape for a slow cooker - looks quite pleasing to the eye, but is shaped rather like a mushroom - in other words, the part you can see at the top is the mushroom "body" and the "stem" is hidden from view. It is this narrowing that is the problem for two reasons.
Firstly, it makes removing food difficult if you use a large spoon (which is necessary owing to the type of food that is cooked in such a pot and because the unit is deep). There is also a lip on the top of the pot so if you've managed to scrape food on the spoon up the side to try to remove, it then gets stuck at the top!
Secondly, and this is my biggest gripe, because of the small surface area of the bottom of the pot (owing to it being the "stalk" bit(!)) it is fairly useless for using on the hob prior to slow cooking - the reason I bought this in the first place was because it could be used on the hob! The product description claims that it is unique because you can simply seal your meat, pre-cook your veg and add stock whilst on the hob and then put it on the base and use as a slow cooker. If you are cooking for more than two people it is very difficult to use this facility.
Another point is that you can't see through the lid. The problem with slow cookers in general is that if you lift the lid then you add 10 - 15 minutes cooking time for each "lift". The lid is ceramic so that it can be put in the oven (unlike most other slow cookers that tend to have plastic handles) which is a good thing, but if you think you might be tempted to check how the cooking's going you might be better looking for a model with a glass lid.
The cook booklet that comes with this slow cooker is rather on the adventurous side. If you are looking for basic casserole recipes then you will need to purchase an additional cook book.
Yes, it cooks beautifully, but if you are cooking for more than two I would advise to look elsewhere.
